Maritime Cook Islands vide circular 172/2018 provided administration’s policy concerning the service providers entitled to provide their services for Cook Islands flagged vessels.
Salient points of the notice are as follows:
Administration has considered two main categories as a. Surveys and Maintenance
It is to be ensured that when service (annual, 5 yearly, occasional) related to this category is requested onboard Cook Islands vessel, the service is to be carried out only by a service provider approved by an IACS Recognized Organization.
The appointed service provider is entitled to carry out the requested survey / service only for the equipment installed on board vessel, in accordance with the list of manufacturer(s) reported in the Certificate(s) of Approval issued by the IACS Recognised Organisation, as applicable.
At vessel location, in case approved service provider is not available and/or entitled to carry out the requested survey/service specifically for the equipment installed on board, administration is to be contacted at technical@maritimecookislands.com
The administration will invalidate the surveys/services carried out by those service providers which are either
not approved by an IACS Recognised Organisation or;
approved by an IACS Recognised Organisation, but not specifically for the equipment installed on board.
In such cases, the surveys/services are to be arranged at the next port of call or at the first available date, whichever comes earlier for the approved service provider that are entitled to carry out the requested survey / services.
It is to be ensured that requests from naval architect(s) to become appointed service provider, are to be forwarded to technical@maritimecookislands.com. After satisfactory review of the documents, administration will issue a letter of authorization to the naval architect which is valid for 12 months.
Ship owners/ operators and masters are advised to take note of above.
