1. The European Commission has issued Alert No. A12/01695/23, highlighting the potential safety issues associated with AWG firefighting hose nozzles with type/model number HS 10, HS 12, HS 16, HS 20, and marking “EN15182-1/3 2015”.
2. The alert provides that the above stated product is defective and does not comply with the requirements of the Marine Equipment Directive nor with the European standard EN 15182-1.
3. Further, the alert provides that there is a risk that the nozzle is not sufficiently resistant to withstand working pressure of 16 bar and may burst under pressure. As a result, the user may get injured during bursting and suffer burns when extinguishing a fire.
4. Ship Owners, managers and masters are advised to take note of above. Further, if the vessel is provided with any of the above mentioned fire hose nozzles, they are advised to immediately communicate this to the ships Flag Administration and the Recognized Organization (RO) for the approval of any corrective action that has to be taken in order to bring such equipment in line with the requirements of the SOLAS Convention.
